How to treat combination skin ?

Combination skin is a specific and complex skin type that shows different characteristics depending on the area of the face: oilier skin on the T-zone (forehead, nose, chin) and normal to dry skin on the rest of the face. This is the most common skin type: combination skin affects people of all ages, women and men.

How do you know if you have combination skin?

The T-Zone is often affected by minor imperfections, such as shine, blackheads and dilated pores, which alter the skin’s quality and appearance. The cheeks tend to be dry and maybe sensitive and red.

Why does combination skin occur?

This skin condition is caused by an imbalance in the T-zone caused by excessive sebum production and a proliferation of certain skin bacteria. We can also observe an accumulation of dead skin cells in this area which obstructs the pores and emphasizes irregularities.

What are the needs of combination skin?

Combination skin, characterized by both dry and oily areas, has very specific needs: we need to improve skin quality in the T-zone while at the same time providing comfort. This skin type therefore needs special care and a tailored skincare response.

Its no. 1 need: good daily hydration is the most important habit for beautiful skin! This is particularly important as combination skin has areas that naturally lack comfort, especially on the cheeks.

However, moisturizing alone is not enough; combination skin also needs a targeted correcting action on the T-zone to reduce shine, tighten pores and smooth out irregularities.

What is the ideal routine to care for combination skin?

The first essential step in any beauty routine is choosing the right make-up remover! This is even more important for combination skin, as its excess sebum means a greater need for purification.

To provide a targeted response for all characteristics of combination skin and restore its radiance and freshness, you then need to choose products specially formulated for combination skin.

The Nuxe Aquabella® range is designed to meet the specific needs of combination skin. It consists of three products with targeted actions to apply daily for fresh and hydrated skin.

Step 1: after removing your make-up, use a facial cleanser for combination skin. The Micro-Exfoliating Purifying Gel cleanses your skin deep down every day. Enriched with particles of Silica and natural-origin blue Micro-balls, it gently removes impurities, excess sebum and dead skin cells to leave skin cleansed and fresh.

Step 2: apply a lotion for combination skin. With its slightly textured formula, the Beauty Revealing Smoothing Essence-Lotion cloaks the face in a moisturizing veil and visibly tightens pores. It is ideal to prepare your skin for a daily care product.

Step 3: complete the ritual with a moisturising cream for combination skin. The light texture of the Beauty-Revealing Moisturising Emulsion combines a moisturizing action with a mattifying effect on oily zones. Skin appears smoother and more radiant; its texture is refined.
Make sure you always apply your products gently to avoid any rebound effect.

Complementary products

  • Boost the effectiveness of your combination skin routine with a face mask once or twice a week. Alternate a moisturizing mask with a purifying mask to provide your skin with both hydration and freshness. We recommend a dual application, with the Purifying + Smoothing Insta-Masque on the T-zone.
  • Combination skin can also become more sensitive in winter and intense cold can aggravate sensations of tugging on the cheeks. To counteract this, choose a product with a richer texture to nourish and comfort your skin. You can also mix a few drops of Huile Prodigieuse® in the palm of your hand with your Aquabella® Beauty-Revealing Moisturising Emulsion.
  • When choosing make-up, opt for light products, for example a powder foundation rather than liquid, and avoid very thick foundations. The Multi-perfecting tinted cream, for example, is ideal to smooth and unify the skin, for a natural-looking ‘perfect skin’ finish.
  • Finally, don’t forget to clean your brushes, sponges and other make-up and foundation accessories regularly to avoid any build up of impurities and bacteria. Clean them once a week in lukewarm water with soap or shampoo and then rinse.

If you tailor your entire beauty routine to your combination skin and follow these good habits, your skin will thank you with a fresher and more radiant-looking appearance day by day!
