Towards an eco-responsible beauty routine

Would you like to make your beauty routine more environmentally friendly? Here are some tips for easy tweaks to your daily habits. More good news: as well as well as being environmentally friendly and responsible for the planet, these changes will also help you save money. Good news for the planet and your purse!

Tips for the bathroom

  • Over the course of a year, your disposable cotton pads mount up to a significant volume of waste, so swap them for reusable versions. Reusable pads are available in different materials, simply choose your favorite!
  • You can also replace your toothbrush with a more environmentally friendly one. A bamboo toothbrush or a brush with replaceable heads will save you having to buy a plastic brush every 3 months.
  • Oriculi is not a made-up word! Another trend from Asia, this little Japanese bamboo or metal stick makes an excellent alternative to cotton buds. It is infinitely reusable and can be found in most pharmacies and parapharmacies.
  • Give your empty skincare jars a new lease of life: use them to store jewelry or seeds, or even as plant pots. There are so many things you can do to avoid throwing them away!
  • A make-up removing oil is also a good way to avoid using cotton pads and can be a useful alternative.
  • Remember to turn off the tap when you brush your teeth, have a shower or apply a scrub to your face or body.

The next steps: tips for the home

Looking beyond your beauty routine, here are a few more simple everyday habits to help the environment:

  • It might seem obvious or simple, but sorting your waste is the first step towards a more environmentally friendly lifestyle. Where possible, buy glass bottles rather than plastic or cardboard as these can be recycled more often than other forms of packaging.
  • Always carry a shopping bag: it doesn’t take up much space and it’s very handy to help you cut down on purchases of plastic bags. Bonus: there are also little cotton bags for fruit and vegetables!
  • Avoid plastic wherever possible: use a reusable cup, water bottle or flask and cutlery at work to avoid accumulating a collection of single-use plastic coffee cups or cutlery.
  • Drink tap water if you can as this will reduce your consumption of plastic bottles with very limited recycling options.
  • Another eco-friendly tip: wait until your cooking water has cooled and then use it to water your plants, they’ll be grateful for it!

Each little step is another action for the planet: follow these habits every day for the good of the environment!
